Solar Panel Energy Savings & Training Project (SPESTP)
In 2008 Halsey Street Green Solutions partnered with the LB Electric Company
to launch the SPESTP to help schools, churches and businesses save money when solar panels are placed on their buildings. For institutions that have buildings with enough available roof space (50,000 square feet) to meet the one-megawatt hour threshold, we can structure an arrangement called a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), which in effect means your organization’s electric bill will be reduced between 30% to 50% on all the buildings that solar panels are installed on by the PPA for the life of the agreement.

We are currently negotiating with the City of Newark and the Newark Board of education to install and maintain solar energy systems on their facilities at zero cost to the city and board of education while their electric energy cost will be reduced anywhere from 30% to 50%.
Based on an energy study of five randomly selected Newark Public Schools conducted by Rodney Williams, the facility manager of the Newark Public Schools and Leon Baptiste of the LB Electric Company the average annual electric bill was $161,612.00 dollars per school. Thus, if we take the aforementioned average and assume a 50% savings in the electricity cost after solar panels are installed on all 82 Newark public schools it would add up to 6.6 million dollars per year in savings and an astonishing 99 million dollars in saving over the 15 year life of solar panel agreement.
Solar energy systems enable the owner to use the Internet to see how many kilowatt hours of electricity are being generated in real time: daily, weekly, monthly, year-to-date, and since the system was installed.
In addition, it is estimated that 100 Newark residents (e.g., high school seniors, veterans & the under employed) will learn how to install solar panels via a combination of formal classroom pre-construction training and solar panel installation training. This training will culminate with each participant receiving a “Solar Panel Installation Certificate” from the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT).
